Confirmation

Dear Parents/Guardians of Confirmation Class 2020,
We had our rehearsal today and hopefully your child feels ready and is looking forward to Friday.
Here are the main points to note:

  • The ceremony will start at 11am.  Candidates and their families must be seated in the church by 10.45am.
  • Each pupil can have their 2 parents/guardians and 1 sponsor attend with them.
  • Pupils know their own seats and their name will be on the seat for them, along with their card and their reading (if they are a reader).
  • Everyone has to wear face masks on entering the church. Readers will take off their masks when reading but otherwise everyone will wear their mask throughout the ceremony.
  • The pupils will be anointed at their seats. Their sponsor will stand behind them.  The bishop will come to the pupils at their seat and anoint using a cotton bud.
  • There will be no communion but families could go to mass within the week to receive the Eucharist as part of the confirmation ceremony.
  • Exiting the church will be by pods. This was practiced today with the pupils. Everyone is asked to go directly to their cars and avoid any congregation. Please take photos at home. The bishop will not be available for photographs at confirmations this year.
We have a lot of new rules and restrictions but if we all work together we should have a very special ceremony and keep everyone safe.

Any queries about the ceremony should be directed to Fr. McInerney.

Kind regards,
Éilis Treacy
Principal
